United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas
Kristie, 38 from Columbus, suffers from Rett Syndrome. She cannot walk or talk and is totally dependent on her family for support. Kristie needs a custom made positioning system for her wheelchair to even remain upright. Unfortunately, Kristie’s insurance would only pay for her wheelchair and not the positioning system. This is where United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas (UPCK) stepped in with help from the United Way. UCPK was able to assist Kristie with not only the funding, but also fabricating the positioning system itself. With her new chair, Kristie is able breathe and swallow better, prevent pressure sores, and hopefully prevent any further curvature of her spine.
